How to Read Your VECO Bill and Calculate Your Real Solar Savings

Most people look at their electricity bill for one number: the total amount due. But if you are considering solar, two other numbers matter far more — your actual kWh consumption and your real rate per kWh. Both are printed on your VECO, MECO, or cooperative bill, and both change the accuracy of any solar estimate you get.

Where to find your kWh consumption

Look for a line labelled "kWh Used," "Total Consumption," or similar — usually near the top of the billing summary, alongside your meter readings for the current and previous period. This is the actual energy you consumed that month, independent of rate changes.

Where to find your real rate per kWh

Your total bill is not simply kWh × one flat rate. Philippine electricity bills bundle generation charge, transmission charge, distribution charge, system loss, and various government-mandated fees into the final amount. Dividing your total peso bill by your kWh consumption gives you a blended effective rate — typically somewhere in the ₱10–14/kWh range for residential customers in the Visayas, though this varies by utility and by month .

Why the effective rate matters more than you think

A generic solar calculator that assumes an average rate for everyone will oversize or undersize your system.
