How Many Solar Panels Do You Need for a House in Cebu? A Practical Guide

Step 1: Know your monthly consumption

Step 2: Calculate your daily average
Divide your monthly kWh by 30 to get your daily consumption. A typical Philippine household with an air conditioner, refrigerator, TV, and basic lighting consumes between 15 and 25 kWh per day. A smaller home without aircon may consume 8 to 12 kWh daily.
Step 3: Apply the Cebu solar factor
Cebu averages approximately 4.5 peak sun hours per day — the number of hours when sunlight is intense enough to generate rated panel output. To cover your daily consumption with solar, divide your daily kWh by 4.5, then account for system losses (typically 20%) by dividing again by 0.8.
Example: a household consuming 20 kWh per day needs approximately 20 ÷ 4.5 ÷ 0.8 = 5.6 kWp of solar panels to cover its full consumption.
Step 4: Count the panels
Most modern residential solar panels are rated at 400W to 580W each. A 5.6 kWp system requires approximately 10 to 14 panels depending on the panel wattage. Each 580W panel is roughly 2.1m × 1.1m — so 12 panels require about 28 square metres of usable roof space.
